Steam Wallet Indonesia: Gift Cards, Regions and Redemption Guide

Steam Wallet codes are the simplest way to pay for Steam without a card, and in Indonesia they come in rupiah. One rule catches most people out, and a few other mistakes are easy to avoid.

What Steam Wallet is

Steam Wallet is the balance on a Steam account. It pays for games, DLC and items in the Steam store.

You top it up with a wallet code. Once redeemed, the value lands in the wallet in the account's currency, which is rupiah for an Indonesian account.

Two things to know from the start: wallet funds cannot be refunded, and they cannot be moved to another account.

Steam Wallet values in IDR

Codes for the Indonesia region come in many values. The Steam page on CardsRelay lists 15: IDR 6,000, 8,000, 12,000, 45,000, 60,000, 82,500, 90,000, 120,000, 165,000, 250,000, 330,000, 400,000, 500,000, 600,000 and 820,000. Pick the value closest to what you plan to spend. If you want one game, there is no need to load a large balance that may sit unused.

Wallet currency and region

Every Steam account has one wallet currency, shown at the top right of the Steam client next to the balance.

Steam's wallet FAQ says a code in a different currency from the account may be refused. For an Indonesian account, use an IDR code.

The wallet currency follows the account's country. If you have moved to or from Indonesia, do not use a VPN to change it: Steam treats that as a breach of its Subscriber Agreement, and it can put the account at risk.

How to redeem a Steam Wallet code

1. Open the Steam client and sign in.
2. Click your profile name at the top right, then View my Wallet.
3. Choose "Redeem a Steam Gift Card or Wallet Code".
4. Enter the code and continue.

You can also redeem in a browser: sign in, then go to store.steampowered.com/account/redeemwalletcode.

Do not enter a wallet code under Activate a Product on Steam. That screen is for game keys, and it will reject a wallet code.

Physical cards and digital codes

Valve is ending Steam gift cards at retail. Stock will not be replaced, and Valve expects shops to run out by the end of 2026. The reason it gives is scams that kept exploiting the physical cards.

Physical cards already bought can still be redeemed. Digital codes, sent by email or shown after payment, carry on as before.

Buying for someone in Indonesia

If you are abroad and buying for a friend or relative in Indonesia, two checks save a wasted code:

• Ask for their wallet currency first. If their Steam account is Indonesian, they need an IDR code, not one in your own currency.
• Send the code, not a balance. Send the code itself before it is redeemed. Once it is redeemed on an account, the balance stays there.

Common mistakes

• Wrong currency: a USD or other code for an IDR wallet. This is the most common reason a code is "invalid".
• Wrong screen: a wallet code entered where game keys go.
• Typos: check characters that look alike before you confirm.
• Too large a value: an unused balance cannot be cashed out or moved.
• Offers to top up "via login": these ask for your password or use Steam Market tricks. Never give anyone your Steam password.

Before you buy

• The wallet you are topping up is in IDR.
• The value matches what you plan to buy.
• You know who the seller is, and how to reach them if a code fails.
• For a gift, the recipient's wallet is in IDR too.
