Eat Out for Less: UK Pub, Restaurant and Cafe Gift Cards with Crypto

A night out costs less when the card is bought before you leave the house. We have added discounts to the UK cards in Food & Drink, so the pub dinner, the birthday at Nando's and the Saturday coffee now come with a little off, paid for in crypto.

How to buy a UK restaurant gift card with crypto

1. Open Food & Drink and pick the pub, restaurant or cafe.
2. Choose the UK card and type the amount, in pounds.
3. Enter your email address. That is the only detail CardsRelay asks for.
4. Pay in XMR, ZANO, BTC or another coin. The discount is already taken off the price at checkout.
5. Open the email and keep the code on your phone. Show it, or a printout, when you pay.

Pub nights and Sunday roasts

The Great British Pub Card carries the biggest discount of the UK restaurant cards: 3% off, from £5 to £250.

One card covers several pub brands, including Chef & Brewer, Fayre & Square, Flaming Grill, Hungry Horse, Farmhouse Kitchen and Belhaven Pubs. You pay with it against food or drink, so it works for a round at the bar as well as a carvery for the whole table.

Not every pub in those groups takes it. Check the pub finder on the card's own site before you book.

Family dinners and birthdays

These four are the usual choice for a birthday or a meal out with the children. Each card is for the UK only.

• Nando's: 1% off, £1 to £100. Pay at the till when you eat in, or order online for collection. It cannot be used on online delivery orders.
• Pizza Express: 1% off, £1 to £100. Show the eGift card on your phone, or a printout, at the till.
• ASK Italian: 1% off, £5 to £100. Pasta, pizza and risotto; present the code in the restaurant.
• Zizzi: 0.5% off, £5 to £100. Find the nearest restaurant on Zizzi's site and show the voucher when you pay.

If a group is splitting the cost, one person can buy the card in advance and the others settle up with them. That keeps the bill simple on the night.

Coffee and a catch up

Smaller amounts, used more often. These cards suit a regular coffee with a friend or lunch on the way somewhere.

• Starbucks: 2% off the UK card where you type your own amount, from £2 to £150. The fixed-value UK card is not discounted, so pick the free amount.
• Caffe Nero: 1% off, £1 to £100. Show the card on your phone to the barista.
• Greggs: 0.5% off, £1 to £250. It works in participating Greggs shops across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, but not in franchise shops, such as those run by MOTO, Euro Garage or Applegreen.
• Subway: 0.5% off the UK card, £5 to £250.

A night in instead

Not every evening needs a booking. Beer52 has the largest discount of the cards in this guide, 6% off, on cards of £27 or £78. Each box brings eight different beers, a magazine and a snack. It is redeemed online at Beer52's site only, so it is one for the sofa rather than the pub.

How much the discount saves

The discount comes off the price of the card, and the card is spent at full value.

Take a £100 Great British Pub Card at 3% off. The checkout price is about £3 lower, and the pub still takes the full £100 off your bill. Put £200 a month of pub meals on the card and that is about £6 a month back, with no loyalty app or voucher code.

Small percentages add up when the spending is regular. A £20 Starbucks card every week at 2% off saves about £20 over a year.

Things to know before you go out

• UK only. Every card here is valid in the United Kingdom only.
• Check the venue. Pub Card and Greggs acceptance varies by site. Use each brand's finder before you go.

• Keep the email. The code is your balance. Store it somewhere you can find it at the table.
